The Windows Phone by Microsoft is gaining in popularity among the users as well as the application developers. This latest version of this product is coupled with advanced features as a well as modern technology is aiming to dominate the market.
It has been estimated that 165 applications are being added to this operating system. Therefore it has been calculated that there would be more than 50,000 applications by the end of this month as far as this operating system is concerned.
According to the research of the analyst firms, such as the Gartner, iSuppli and the IDC, by the year 2015 the Windows Phone would emerge to be the second best platform for Smartphone. Gartner and IDC are also of the opinion that the Windows Phone 7.5, also referred to as the ‘Mango’ would account for less than 20% of the total market share. The updated prediction of the iSuppli opines the fact that by the year 2015 it would account for 16.7 % of the total market share. According to the iSuppli, the iOS would account for 16.6 % of market share, a reduction from 18% of market share.
As far as the terms and conditions associated with Microsoft’s partnership with Nokia, Nokia would work towards the high sale of the Windows Phone. It would offer it’s skilled and expertise services in areas of support of the language and design of the hardware. Thus it could be stated that it would not have been possible for the Windows Phone to attain this high level of success without the help of Nokia.
Nokia also made the announcement that it would withdraw itself from the development of Symbian OS and would only focus on the development of the Windows Phone7.
According to Ramon LIamas, Senior Research Analyst of IDC, “Up until the launch of Windows Phone 7 last year, Microsoft has steadily lost market share while other operating systems have brought forth new and appealing experiences,”. He also said that “The new alliance brings together Nokia’s hardware capabilities and Windows Phone’s differentiated platform. We expect the first devices to launch in 2012. By 2015, IDC expects Windows Phone to be number 2 operating system worldwide behind Android,” .
On the basis of estimation it could be stated that the iOS of Apple would occupy the third position in 2015 with respect to market share.
Thus it remains to be seen that whether Windows Phone would be able to occupy the top position in the coming years.
