After surveying around 2,300 enterprise professionals, iPass the renowned enterprise mobility provider for its quarterly report on Mobile workforce found that iPhone has topped with a 45% market share among the mobile business crowd that was pegged at 31% in 2010.

Slipping on to second position was the BlackBerry with a 32% share making up the mobile workforce market, slightly dropping from its 35% share seen last year. To some industry experts, BlackBerry’s tumultuous condition comes as no surprise, since Android and iPhone seems to be creating all the rage overshadowing BlackBerry handsets.

According to the notion of iPass, the current setback of BlackBerry is definitely not indicating that it is losing out on its market share, instead it is testifying how its contemporaries are growing in number as well as popularity.

iPass President and CEO Evan Kaplan reportedly admitted in the report, “While increasing iPhone usage in the workplace was inevitable, this is the tipping point when the iPhone has overcome the BlackBerry on its traditional enterprise turf, and business smartphones are in the hands of nearly every knowledge worker, Today’s mobile employees are critical to the success of every enterprise, contributing 240 more work hours a year than their non-mobile counterparts. Google’s Android platform also showed some applauding progress rising up from its 2010 market share of 11.3% to 21.3%. Talking about the overall smartphone use, around 95% mobile employees own smartphones that is a 10% leap from the 2010 statistics. Out of these 95% mobile workforce crowds, 91% incorporate mobile devices for performing professional tasks and that is certainly a significant rise from the 69%, recorded during the 2010 survey report.

The survey report further stated that around 18% respondents are planning to purchase Apple devices in 2012, 11.2% to buy Android devices, 3.6% purchasing Microsoft Windows smartphones and just a meager 2.3% in favor of BlackBerry. About 63% enterprises are offering employees wide selections in smartphones while 42% workers meet smartphone expenses on their own, paving way for the raging trend of BYOD or Bring Your own Device for professional use.

However, this opportunity is also going to clear off all airs and misconceptions that has been surrounding cloud computing for a while now. Supporting the statement, IDC chief research officer and senior vice-president has quoted- “A common misperception is cloud computing is a job eliminator, but in truth it will be a job creator — a major one.” He further added in a recent company report that due to cloud job growth will be widespread and will occur across continents and throughout organizations of all sizes because emerging markets, small cities and small businesses have the same access to cloud benefits as large enterprises or developed nations.”

Countries in particular like India and China will witness most of the job growth. Industry experts are expecting that these countries will give rise to 6.75 million cloud jobs as opposed to a projected 2.07 jobs in the European, African and Middle Eastern region (EMEA), 2.8 million in Asia-Pacific along with 1.17 million in North America.

The report also points out that India and China will remain at the vanguard for maximum cloud job creation, mostly because of the presence of huge manpower in the region. It is also mentioned in the report that due to less ‘legacy drag’ while essentially backing up traditional IT software and systems along with infrastructure disputes, they lend themselves to cloud adoption as the main driving force.

Although, the United States is heading the entire scenario in one aspect which is ‘spending’, the president of Microsoft (North America division) Robert Youngjohns has blogged recently stating that, “the U.S. accounted for 62 percent of worldwide spending for public IT cloud services last year.”

Microsoft has already started working on this project in collaboration with HortonWorks which is the by-product of Yahoo associated with the commercial support as well as distribution services of Hadoop.

According to the CTO of Hortonworks, Mr. Eric Baldeschwieler, “What makes this announcement significant is that Microsoft is opening up Apache Hadoop to literally millions of new users. There are many more millions of Excel and PowerPivot users that can now derive value from Apache Hadoop using software that is already very familiar to them.”

Among the many Hadoop related open-source undertakings, Hortonworks and Microsoft officially announced about this ‘connector-project’ at the O’Reilly Strata Data Conference on Tuesday, an event held in Santa Clara, California. Last year, both the companies came under a pact adapting Hadoop to the Windows ecosystem.

Hortonworks and Microsoft are also venturing out possibilities of a JavaScript framework, that will enable programs based on JavaScript to explore Hadoop data. Along with that, both the concerns are even working on a sequence of patches meant for the Hadoop core that will facilitate the software to be run on Windows Server.

The connector is going to be an Online Database Connector (ODBC) that will work together with Hadoop by means of the Hive data warehouse system. Downloaded data from Hive in Excel can be assessed by utilizing powerful tools like Excel PowerPivot.

Hortonwork’s Vice-President for corporate strategy, Mr. Shaun Connolly stated via email, “Microsoft’s ODBC driver for Hive is something they’ve built so that Excel, Power Pivot and other Microsoft tools can connect to Hadoop (via Hive) more easily. Hortonworks is focused on working with Microsoft to bring this technology into open source so it can be more widely available to and used by the Apache Hadoop community,”

Shaun further added that the JavaScript framework will too follow suit as far as its development plan is concerned. Products manufactured under the brand name of Microsoft follow a distinct core platform while Hortonworks modify them for extensive use.

As of now both the JavaScript framework as well as the connector are not available but are slated for future release as open source mechanisms, concluded by Connolly.

Zend is an MVC (Model-View-Controller) framework. It features Access Control List (ACL) and cache technology. The Zend framework has an in-built form element feature. This lets the coder create text-boxes and dropdowns (or any other form element) with the maximum ease. It also helps with implementing validations without having to write custom JavaScript codes or server side validation codes.

Magento implements the Zend technology. The Zend ACL technology for login authentication and the mem-cached feature have been put to use in Magento.

While Magento’s all functional code and the related template files are placed inside the App folder, the Zend library is placed in the root directory’s library folder. All the internal functionality of Magento is controlled by the “mage.php” code, which is placed inside the app folder.

Wishlist Customization

Our project had offered us the scope to work with Wishlist customization as well. We had customized the Wishlist functionality to implement a “Money Donation” feature, instead of using “Product Donation”. We had inherited the core Wishlist module to the Local Module, and then customized it so that the user could now donate money instead of the option to donate products. One the amount donated corresponded with the required purchase price, Wishlist creator generates a notification mail, and then the user can purchase the product using the amount that has been collected.

Product Restriction

We have added a feature that enables the admin to restrict any product based on the constraints of location, quantity, total purchase amount, base amount, etc. The Magento Purchase Module was inherited to the Local Section and customized to show us this functionality.

Local Pickup

We integrated Google Maps to feature store locations. This enabled us to feature multiple store locations on the front end. The user could now choose a store based on their choice of location and subscribe to the store, collect product information from the store, and make their purchases. When the customer subscribes to any particular store, they are provided with a special coupon which they can use later on when collection the product from the store.

Needs

This module lets the user request a product that is currently not available in the Magento Store. Once the user creates a Need, the admin comes to know about the requirement through a notification email. The admin can then purchase the required item for the user.

Impact Story

A widget has been developed that allows the customer to publish their feedback on any product. This widget can then be used to feature the feedback on any website, and even on the social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Maketick Year Ending Party

The picnic spot was really good we got enough of space to do whatever fun activities we like. We reached the spot by 10 am and had our breakfast. Studies have proved that the general shopping cart abandonment rate is around 60 to 80%. Well, to keep this write up going, I will state few of the possible reasons behind shopping cart abandonment that have come out as the result of latest surveys

• High Shipping cost: This has emerged to be one of the major reasons for shopping cart abandonment. 69% of the total shoppers who fail to complete the purchasing process come under this section. Shoppers usually complain that they come to know the shipping costs not until they reach the final step. This is when they empty their shopping carts and decide against buying online.

• Try and use some other means of instructions for the users besides having them just written on the website as most of the e-shoppers tend to overlook the written instructions.

• Position the ‘Update’ button somewhere readily visible rather than putting it at the bottom of the shopping cart. This will help the shoppers to locate it easily.

• Most of the e-commerce websites ask for all personal and billing details of the shoppers even before they are asked for the total cost of the items added to the shopping cart. Most of the shoppers tend to change their mind after they get to know the total price and thus they don’t want to give out their personal details to the websites before they find out the total price.

E-commerce in India has opened up new dimensions for marketing and shopping. Indians take time to trust but once they do, they tend to stick to it. Contents say how a portal works and how they do it. If contents of an e-commerce portal are interesting and convincing enough, there is no second thought that people will go for online shopping.

Well well you must be curious why I said that…? Ok, let me now tell you why am I ready to use Ruby on Rails rather than any other programming language.

• Ruby on Rails is a framework which makes it a lot easier to develop, deploy, and maintain web applications than the other existing programs.

• Its architecture is just wow! Ruby on Rails is based on MVC framework. While developing you can find that there’s a place for each piece of code, and all the pieces of your applications are interacting a standard way. It’s as If you start out with the skeleton of an application already prepared.

• Rails application is written in Ruby, which is a modern, fully object-oriented scripting language. It is concise without being unintelligibly crisp. One can express his/her ideas naturally and cleanly in Ruby code. This has leaded to the creation of programs that are easy to write and equally to read months later.

The style of programming in Ruby is familiar to Lisp coders. The language makes it much easier to create methods that act almost like extensions to the syntax.

The best part of it is that developing a web application in Rails much faster than developing same web applications in other frameworks. Moreover, you don’t have to deal with endless bugs while developing in Rails.

Trust me guys, its very easy if you do it with PEAR image package. Ok…let me write down all the steps, how you might do it.

• If PEAR is not installed in your server please install PEAR. Good news…it comes absolutely free being an open source package. You will get PEAR installation guide from www.pear.php.net.

You would also like to use different colors for different bars or different sections of the pie chart. To do that we need to give each dataset a unique identifier, as well as use a fill array to match the colors with the element. Also one graph may have more than one plot areas.

The left area is then further broken into two plotareas, the top one taking up 60% of the space. Using the same dataset, we create two new types: a pie graph and a line graph.

Imagine how the students feel going through dull e-learning sites? Trust me, it’s real tough to make them sit before a computer and persuade them to spend some of their time to get the lessons straight! And if the contents are not interesting…at least I wouldn’t have wasted my time there. So, the challenge remains making learning online an interesting journey for the students. Let’s now peep into the tricks of keeping learners glued to the computer screen. Way we go…!!!

Designs: Get it straight…learners don’t like to look at dull layouts especially if it has anything to do with learning! So, the trick is to give right kind of color and feel to the web page. The background should have the appropriate colors, targeting the students. Fonts should be equally interesting. For instance, if the target users are children…they would definitely love Mickey to lead them from chapters to chapters.

Sound of music: It is very important to spice up the entire learning experience by using the right kind of music and jingles for each page…this can make navigating an interesting part of learning thus urging students go on with the course!

Coordinated continuity: The worst that happen to an online course is having all information and graphics spilling over each other without any continuity. It is immensely important to have all the information, designs, graphics and other elements in tune…that is, they should be continuous. Otherwise it can divert users’ concentration. To maintain this, one has to make sure all colors are coordinated. Buttons, arrows and boxes should be made of the same pattern and style…in every page.

Maintain your image: …I mean the content’s. One has to keep in mind; images attract viewer’s attention the most! Start with the best one…and maintain the pixels through out.

Brush up the contents: There is no use of long, boring contents. Crisp and lucid contents convey ideas faster. Right content with appropriate graphics for sure can do wonders.

…And together these tricks shall create magic. Now students can have a colourful e-learning experience!

There are some manual downloads available on Internet but I would suggest you go for the PEAR Installer which, you will find in http://pear.php.net. This installer is the backbone of PEAR, which provides a distribution system for PHP packages, and is shipped, with every release of PHP. However, the PEAR channel (pear.phpunit.de) which, is used to distribute PHPUnit, needs to be registered with the local PEAR environment. Let us have a look at the steps involved in the entire process.

Step 1: Go to command prompt and navigate to your directory where PEAR is installed. If it is installed properly, the pear command will run successfully. The moment it starts running successfully, you have to type-

Step 2: Now the PEAR Installer can be used to install packages from the PHPUnit channel:

This command will automatically install PHPUnit. After the installation you will find the PHPUnit source files inside your local PEAR directory.

Although using the PEAR Installer is the only supported way to install PHPUnit, you can also install PHPUnit manually. For manual installation, you can go to http://pear.phpunit.de/get/ and extract it to a directory that is listed in the include_path of your php.ini configuration file.

Copy the whole PHPUnit folder and its associated files to your convenient location where you want to put your test classes used in the PHPUnit. You may face some path related problem but I feel you guys are intelligent enough to overcome those little problems.

• Greater speed: the modified features in MySQLi have made operations faster. Can you believe now you can perform a task in MySQLi 40 times faster as compared to ext/mysql!?

• Better security: In the older versions of the MySQL RDBMS, the possibility of a hacker getting hold of the weak passwords from the network is high whereas, the authentication procedure in MySQLi is much more robust.
• Easy to maintain: The ext/mysql code is somewhat complex and messy as its features have to be enabled and disabled manually according to the various versions whereas, the features of MySQLi are compatible with all the versions.
• Backwards compatibility: Although the compatibility between ext/mysql and ext/mysqli is not perfect, effort has been made to simplify porting applications from ext/mysql to ext/mysqli.

The ext/mysqli supports all the new features found in recent versions of MySQL and introduces few of its own. Let’s have a look at these unique features:

• A procedural interface that looks very much like the ext/mysql interface.

• An object-oriented interface which, allows for a use idiom that is both more convenient and easier to extend than the procedural interface

• It supports the new MySQL binary protocol which, was introduced in MySQL 4.1.

• It supports full feature set of MySQL C client library, including the ability to set advanced connection options via mysqli_init() and related functions.

• And to add to the uniqueness, the extension also supports additional tracing, debugging, load balancing and replication of functionality.

There are some aspects of ext/mysqli which are quite different from the old extension. Specific features have been removed as an effort to correct certain design flaws or bug-prone behaviors like the following:

• Default database connection: If you do not explicitly connect to the server, ext/mysqli will not do it for you.

• Default link: The database server connection that you wish to use must be explicitly referenced while using ext/mysqli via its procedural context, i.e. mysqli_query($link, $query);

Note that open connections (and similar resources) are automatically destroyed at the end of script execution. However, you should still close or free all connections, result sets and statement handles as soon as they are no longer required. This will help to return resources to PHP and MySQL faster.

Singapore is expected to lead the chart with 62% of all businesses going online for marketing. India will be following close with 60% of business promoting themselves online. Then comes China, Australia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Indonesia and South Korea. When we talk Internet marketing in Asia, we can’t afford to forget the strong presence of traditional media in here which is the strongest platform of marketing in Asia. So, if Internet marketing has to survive here it has to combat the traditional forms of media.

And there is more to it…though India and China are expected to rule the sphere of Internet marketing in India, it is also expected that Internet marketing in these countries would hardly account for 2.5% of the entire media spent, despite the web 2.0 boom in these countries. There are some facts that maybe considered as hindrances in this respect.

Due to the low Internet spend in countries like Singapore, South Korea and Japan (which is only 3.5% of the total media spend in here), online marketing generally produces low return thus, preventing continuous investment in the field.
